Our

LOCATION

The Mullichain Cafe is situated on the banks of the river Barrow in St Mullins known as The Jewel of the Barrow where you can sit with a glass of wine or a good coffee and watch the river flow – that’s the good life

Martin O’Brien

The

CAFE

MARTIN, EMER AND MARK WOULD LOVE TO WELCOME YOU INTO THEIR PIECE OF HEAVEN.

The Mullicháin Café is a tastefully restored 18th century canal storehouse which was used to store grain and all kinds of goods that were transported on the canal line from 1760. Nestled in the Barrow valley and right off the beaten track St Mullins or Badger Wood is a charming bit of old world Ireland. Two great artisans John Broughal and John O’Dwyer with their “Man Friday” Martin and the great designer Emer worked to transform a sadly derelict building into a show piece of times gone by. Great coffee, fantastic atmosphere and chat to beat the band, what more can you ask for?

Lovely Lunch We're lucky to live close to St Mullins and it's so nice to be able to sit in or out when going to the Mullichain for some tasty lunch, brunch or treats. Staff are always helpful and friendly. The walks by the barrow are lovely too.

Beautiful place (St. Mullins) and beautiful food. It a really lovely location (on the Barrow river). We had lunch of Pate and humous, both with fresh salads. We shared and both of us enjoyed both meals.

Yea worth finding Well several recent reviews reflect our very pleasant trip to find this cafe. Lovely comfort Food hit the spot, well prepared and presented. Lovely staff added to the experience and we chatted to the owner who has this place buzzing along. Covid well observed and respected. Deserves to do well even in this downturn. Thank you

Excellent food al fresco Returning to Balbriggan from weekend in Dungarvan we opted to try out the Barrow Walk. We did a beautiful stretch from Graignamanagh to St Mullans and were welcomed in the this great place. Set in a beautiful location on the river we were quickly given a well sanitized table on the river bank. My meal was a delicious open sandwich and my wife had a chicken panini. For drinks my wife was very happy with her strong coffee while I had the unexpected bonus of a fresh chilled local cidar. Altogether a wonderful surprise of a day.

Stunning. Stunning scenery and a great place to rest after a lovely walk along the river. I had the leek and potato soup, which was delicious, and my partner also had soup and then a wrap which was equally as lovely. There seems to be only one toilet, which wasn’t the cleanest, but they were super busy, so I completely understand that people are constantly using it and it’s difficult to keep on top of. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Seating available inside and out. We sat inside as no space outside, however you can request a table outside when it becomes available, as a couple did behind us. Loads of staff, so you aren’t waiting long to order or for your plates to be taken away. Will visit again when back on Ireland.
